Singer Abrarul Haq has been credited for The Punjaabban Song, a version of his hit track Nach Punjaban, as used in Karan Johar’s latest offering JugJugg Jeeyo. The singer’s name appears at the bottom of a poster for the song, which features the film’s lead actors including Anil Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani and Neetu Singh. Abrar’s name appears alongside Tanishk Bagchi, both of whom are credited for the music and lyrics of the song, at the bottom of the poster. It was shared by Karan on Instagram, with the music video set to premier on YouTube today.
The development comes after Abrar accused the filmmakers of using his song without acquiring the rights to it, with T-Series later refuting the claim.
Taking to his Twitter handle, the singer had written, “I have not sold my song Nach Punjaban to any Indian movie and reserve the rights to go to court to claim damages.” The Billo hitmaker went on to tag KJo to assert, “Producers like Karan Johar should not use copied songs. This is my 6th song being copied, which will not be allowed at all.”
While written and performed by Abrar, it is pertinent to mention here that Nach Punjaban is sourced to Moviebox Birmingham Limited on Spotify. Following Abrar’s tweet, the UK record label’s Twitter handle issued a statement of its own, making Abrar's case weaker.
It noted, “Nach Panjaban has been officially licensed for it to be included in the film Jugjugg Jeeyo by T-Series. Karan Johar and Dharma Movies have the legal rights to use this song in their film and the tweet by Abrarul Haq earlier today is defamatory and completely unacceptable.”
